Lipodissolve

The lipodissolve technique was pioneered by Dr Patrica Rittes, a board certified dermatologist in Brazil more than 10 years ago.  Since then, Dr Rittes has performed the treatment on more than 2000 patients in Brazil.  It is estimated that 20,000 vials of the ingredient is used per month in Brazil.

What is lipodissolve?

Lipodissolve is a treatment technique that is used by Dr Tan to specifically treat small areas of fat deposits that do not respond to proper diet and regular exercise. This is an inches program, not a weight loss program.

Phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholic acid (PC/DC), also known as lecithin and bile salts respectively are used.  PC is found naturally in all living organisms (both animals and plants) and helps to maintain lipid balance and controls what goes in and out of the cell. It increases HDL levels (commonly known as good cholesterol). It helps inhibit plaque formation inside  the blood vessels and is also needed for good brain function.  PC is medically proven to reduce cholesterol, increase metabolism and enhance liver and cellular functions.

How does lipodissolve work?

PC/DC act as emulsifiers and have been shown to break down the fat cell walls within 30 minutes.  They liquefy the fat which are then eliminated by the macrophages and lymphatic system in the body.

Is lipodissolve safe?

PC is a soy-derived phospholipid.  If you have an allergy to soy, then this treatment might not be for you.
PC/DC only affects the fat cells.  It does not cause any damage to organs or muscles.
PC has been used intravenously since the 1950’s to reduce cholesterol and plaque and to treat fatty liver.  There has not been any reports of organs melting from high dosage of PC use.

Are there any other benefits with lipodissovle?

Yes.  New and future weight gain is accumulated evenly, unlike liposuction when fat can accumulate unevenly in areas where fat has been removed causing uneven dents.  PC can also smooth the orange peel effect of cellulite.  The results remain permanent unless there is new weight gain.

Are there any side effects?

Injections of PC/DC causes local pain, swelling, minor burning which peaks in 3-4 days.  Temporary bruising, itching and soreness may be experienced for 1-2 weeks.  Swelling and discoloration may be present for up to 4-6 weeks.   Nodules or lumps may also be present at the site of injection.  These effects are all temporary and resolve in time.

Are there dangerous side effects?

To date, there has been no reports of death, toxic, mutagenic or teratogenic side effects.

Are lipodissolve injections right for me?

These treatments have been used successfully to treat fat deposits under the eyes, legs, buttocks, arms, abdomen, love handles and any other areas where unwanted fat may be present.

It is a wonderful and cost effective alternative to expensive and invasive surgical techniques like liposuction and the results are amazing. Lipodissolve has shown excellent results to smooth and remove cellulite.  In comparison, surgical liposuction does not treat cellulite and in fact, can enhance pre-existing cellulite, making the cellulite even more prominent.  After the lipodissolve treatments are completed, the skin is tighter, smoother and more contoured, resulting in a favorable appearance.

Lipodissolve treatments are for healthy people who have have a BMI of less than 30, and have small areas of unwanted fat that does not respond to a healthy diet and exercise routine.

How often are the treatments?

The injections are performed every 4- 6 weeks to the same area. However, if you wish to have a different area treated, this can be done within that time frame.  Treatments are given in a series of 4-5 sessions per body area, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.  There are limits to how much PC/DC is used per session.

This is not surgery, hence the full effects might not be noticed till the treatment series is completed which may take 6 months.  Results are usually begin to become apparent within 4-6 weeks.  No further treatments are needed as long as the patient maintains their weight by following a healthy diet and exercise routine.   Occasionally, some patients may want a touch up every year.

Can lipodissolve cause uneven fat loss?

No. Injections are done in small amounts in evenly spaced distances apart.  The time frame between treatments together with the small doses used each session, provide the physician the opportunity to observe and monitor the effects.

What should I expect following the treatment?

There will be pain, burning, bruising, tenderness and swelling which peaks in 3-4 days.  Some patients may feel some bumps or nodules under the skin at the site of injection.  These effects are part of the treatment and will resolve in time, usually 4-6 weeks.
Ultrasound studies have shown the PC/DC to be actively working during that time.

Can anyone do this treatment?

Lipodissolve is not recommended for pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding. People with soy allergies, have a severe chronic illness, autoimmune condition, have liver or kidney failure or who are obese.  In addition, people who are on blood thinners or coumadin, chemotherapy or steroids should not be treated.
