All my life I have struggled with my weight. My mother supervised my first diet at age 8. (My mother had lost 100 lbs in a similar diet before she married) At age 11, I was 5 ft 1.75 inches and weighed 144 lbs. That year I did manage to lose some weight.

As an adult, I sought medical assistance to lose weight at least twice as well as numerous attempts at various programs on my own.  I became interested in natural health, healing and foods, even becoming a good vegetarian cook.  However, I was unable to achieve a healthy weight.

After reaching my desired weight, I found I could successfully maintain that weight by following the maintenance guidelines as much as possible.This means I do my best to eat (more often than not) what recommended and keep up with a regular exercise routine. On special occasions like Thanksgiving when I do overindulge, I find I can still maintain my weight if I continue to make healthy choices, and eat in moderation those foods that may not be recommended or healthy. If I occasionally gain a few pounds, I know I can quickly lose the extra weight by returning to the maintenance program or, if necessary, the main program.
